Nigerian music producer, Don Jazzy, has re-echoed calls to the Federal Government to consider the cultivation of medicinal cannabis in Nigeria.
The campaign comes a few days after Mavin Records honcho celebrated one year anniversary of quitting smoking on social media as he urged his fans to celebrate his milestone.
Don Jazzy, took to his Twitter account on Thursday to speak up about the issue which became a sensitive subject of national discussion in May.
Six months ago, Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu travelled to Thailand for a programme tagged, ‘Medicinal Cannabis Extract Development,’ which assessed the materials and best practices of medicinal cannabis planting and growing.
While reckoning the possibility of replicating the system in Nigeria, he described Ondo State as a “hotbed of cannabis cultivation”.
On October 3, he questioned when the country was going to join the booming global cannabis industry and trade rather than continue to let “faux religious and moral sentiments to becloud the sense of advancement.”
In a series of tweets, Don Jazzy suggested that the criticisms should be focused more on tobacco smoking which kills millions of people globally than cannabis which, according to him, has many health benefits.
