London-based Nigerian artist Martel B is back! Only a few days after unveiling one of the biggest UK collaborations of the year “Badda Dan Dem (Remix)”, merging Afro-beats with Grime and UK Rap, featuring veterans Mr. Bigz, Frisco and Young Spray, and supported by Complex, MTV UK and GRM Daily among other UK tastemakers, the emerging UK Afrobeats artist returns with a brand new Highlife single titled “New Life”.
Produced by Buzzin and featuring Big P, who has previously worked with the likes of May7ven, Dotstar and Terry G, Martel B’s “New Life” was inspired by a recent trip to Nigeria, where his grandmother schooled him on Nigerian music classics including the likes of Bobby Benson, Victor Olaiya, and Oliver De Coque. Martel B loved and was inspired by the vintage Highlife sound so much, that he went and created “New Life”.
Directed by Donald Sagsco, and filmed on location in Sagsco Studios, the visuals for “New Life” capture Martel B in his live performance element, accompanied by a full live band. The visuals also feature cameo appearances from dance duo G.O.P Dancers with their exciting and energetic choreography, and Big P who offers up a fun and infectious guest performance.
With a critically acclaimed debut EP and a plethora of singles already under his belt this year, Martel B is fast creating his own individual and unique lane within the African music landscape.
His very distinctive style, lyrical dexterity and trademark smooth vocals are just some of the things that set him apart. Enjoy “New Life” below and look out for Martel B’s next official single.
